Cabaret (1972)

I love surprises like this one. When i first rented out cabaret it was because i had it on my list of ‘Must See Movie Musicals’ rather than on the LGBT list, so you can imagine my excitement when random unexpected gayness started happening! ‘Omg totally adding this to the gay list and crossing it off!’ i get kinda excited when i can cross something off the list, not gunna  lie.

Subtle gay activity aside though, Cabaret deserves to be on the list i think anyway purely just for being a movie made for gay men to watch and love. I don’t even know where to start with this one, it’s just brilliant, like everything. Liza. Bob Fosse. —need i say more. Literally i’m not even going to, just watch it and u’ll know, and we’ll have this amazing interconnectedness moment of understanding, and we’ll probably feel compelled to virtually hug.

- - - FAVOURITE MOVIE MOMENTS - - -
Soooo many! I've tried to screen cap most of them above so u can better imagine what i'm talking about here.
Straight up in the opening scenes there is this wonderful moment where, Joel Grey who plays the emcee is singing the opening number 'Willkommen', and ur sitting there like oh lol he looks kinda funny, and this is a pretty weird song .. very weird - and then it cuts to this woman sitting in the audience with the greatest '... the fuck??' expression on her face that i've ever seen xD it's priceless and just sets off the mood for the entire rest of the film.
Bob Fosse chorie is particularly outstanding in this one i think - i also love watching these kinda older films and seeing classic dance moves he did that u recognise from recent movies that current choreographers have obviously just not come up with themselves. I love his directing as well - it looks real, like it feels like ur watching something that's actually happening. The chorus isn't produced in a studio, the camera picks up random bad angles of the actors, they have wierd voce moments and expressions - i love it :D
I love everything about Sally - i wish i was her.
I love the random drag queen in the cabaret.
I love movie musicals like these where the production numbers are done on the side to reinforce the plot (kinda makes me feel smart cuz it's subtle lol)

My favourite hot gay moment has to be when Brian and Sally are over at Max's house, and the three are dancing intimately together in a wine-induced reverie. It's funny cuz sally has been trying hard to seduce max and we all kinda think she's succeeding, but at the same time wishfully thinking that all the male characters are secretly gay for eachother (as we do in all films.. don't we?) Anyway they're in this kinda group embrace with their faces literally cm away from each other, and the music awkwardly stops playing and they're kinda looking at eachother drunkedly, ...and u all of a sudden realise that everyone has just gotten hard :O and the two guys are looking at eachother, and we're thinking 'omg they're going to have hot gay SEX!!?' it's like the twist that u totally wish would happen in all other films, but possibly still wishfull thinking. That moment where ur like hopefull and there's been all these signs, but it's still kind of unknown?! that shit is hotter than any kind of porn i reckon. And u'll just have to watch the movie urself to find out if the boys really do get it on ;) omg i know right! just do it

MOVIE : ORGASMIC
HOTTNESS OF CAST : Yay ;) but with a few Om nom nom moments lol

RENT (2005)

So i know that there are many many people who give Glee a ton of shit, like people will either passionately love it or hate it. When someone asks me if i watch, don’t know about anyone else, but i always get heaps nervous, like i’m thinking that this could potentially end a friendship right here depending on what i say. So i’m always like, “yeeaahh... I like the songs and stuff.. the story is sometimes...” u know, like trying to play it safe. And if they say they like it i’m like ‘OMG I LOVE IT’, hell even if they say they hate it i’m like ‘SHUT UP I LOVE IT!!’ pfff like we could have been friends anyway.

There is no doubt in my mind that glee has made me who i am at the moment. Like i don’t even know what i would’ve been listening to on constant loop for the past couple of years if Rachel Berry had not been born. God my life would suck, in fact i’d probably be dead. I sure as hell wouldn’t have fallen in love with this musical that’s for sure. Rachel and Mercedes dueting take me or leave me - omg people speak of pinpointing those single moments that have defined the rest their lives - this was one of those times hey. WATCH IT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3cbGKlYWkE ; and if it’s ever removed for copyright or whatever, audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w55hz4Q7MGE . Easily the the best $2.19 i ever spent. Easilly.

Anyway so like any self-respecting gay, i loves me some musical theatre. Before this though i guess u could say i just enjoyed it a lot; like i’d been to a few shows with my family, Mamma Mia!, The Wizard of Oz (with ’ol gurl Nicki Webster), in grade 12 i worked in my school’s production of The Hound of Music, that sort of thing. Went on a pilgrimage with my girl friend Emma to Sydney for Wicked, as u do, so yeah i enjoyed it a lot :) Wasn’t till rent though that i actually got addicted to it like Amy Winehouse was to heroin, ecstasy and crack-cocaine! (.. nah not even too soon for that one :/ ) Glee led me to the original Take Me or Leave Me by Broadway goddesses Idina and Tracie, which i listened to a few hundred times. Had an epic moment of re-discovering Seasons of Love from when i joined the choir for a year in grade 4 -  crazy awesome. Then of course did the usual IMDB/wiki-research on the musical and movie, before finally deciding that my life would simply not by complete until this shit had been seen in all it’s entirety. MOVIE NIGHT!! I think i even made a fb event for this one - it commanded serious attention. So i got a whole bunch of my friends of dorothy really keen, and we all got together at Rhiannon’s house for the grand first-time viewing. Actually to be honest i don’t think any of the others knew what we were seeing when i organised this.. It was kinda just like ‘movies and sleepover at Rhi’s!!’ and then i was like ‘musicals!! or something..’ and everyone else was like ‘wait, whaa?’ Quit ur complainin bitches, i wanna watch it so we’re watchin it and u’ll love it. Nick was all like ‘mer musicals suck’. Nick’s awesome and one of my bestest friends, but like he’s that one friend that u have who has all kinds of shit taste in music and movies. Like ok i know it’s personal opinion and all that, but guaranteed if there was any song or tv show that i like, he will hate it. And i don’t know if he does it just because, like sometimes we’ll be driving in the car and he’s like ‘don’t play any glee cuz it’s all shit’, and of course i’ll deliberately play glee, and he’ll not realise and be loving it singing along!? What’s the deal man, make up ur mind. Anyway so he wasn’t keen, but seeing as i’m big spoon in our relationship we watch it anyway. Also earlier in the evening i’d completely destroyed him in a beer sculling comp so his pride was kinda low. (Long story short, i hate beer and he loves it, so of course we had a beer drinking comp at southbank which Nick thinks i cheated in cuz he was drinking it all slow and laughing at me not being able to drink it, and then i caught him off guard by sculling the entire thing and he couldn’t keep up. So this was the official re-match at Rhi’s, where we both just had to go for it, loser has to make the winner a sandwich, and i beat him again, still waiting for the sandwich). Why would i agree to a beer drinking comp in the first place u may ask, especially when i believe it tastes like sewerage? Really Brett, u know me - i broke my ankle trying to better my bounding record at training, even though i’d already beaten everyone. BODY ON THE LINE. MUST WIN NO MATTER THE COST! That is why we are going to destroy at tennis comp - babe i will play with no arms or right foot and still try to win for us. IT’S JUST A FLESH WOUND. KEEP PLAYING!! Obviously this is where ur actual tennis pro ability will come in handy..

Totally have gone off course, and bringin it back.
RENT

For those of u who aren’t Brett and are reading this (??) actually omg YOLLY!!! My one and only follower :D When i heard that u were not only reading my posts, but also watching the films??!! Literally pissing wiv excitement xD Hello my lovely, i’ll tell you a story..
It was a cold and lonely night, as many of our nights are.. ok no not really, it was actually kinda warmish; i decided to watch Rent, but before i started I got a text from my dear friend Brett, (or maybe i texted him, i can’t remember) and we were talking about something, i can’t remember what it was now.. ok so i’m going to go get my phone cuz this story sucks so far. Right ok, so we were talking about Delta Goodrem and being bummed that her album isn’t rumoured to be coming out till August. This of course made us both kinda sad, and seeing as the extent of Brett’s night plans were to stare blankly at his sewing machine, i proposed a night time showing of my current all time favourite movie musical. However, seeing as he lives all the way on the far far north side, we would have to settle for a long distance viewing of rent by correspondence from our computers - which we did. And i think we were pretty much in perfect sync too! Until i took a 10 min break for intermission, which i think i did without telling him, oh well (irrelevant). So i was totes jelous cuz brett had 2 bottles of moscato and the only wine i could find at home came out of a box, but i was on a high from Rent anyway so drank tea. (again, irrelevant, why would u care what i drank).

Anyway, so i was totally invested in watching this musical right - it was tragic and amazing and my voice was a little sore from singing all the songs hard out; the movie finishes and i’m like totally emotionally raw and exhausted, get a text from Brett, and i quote - ‘How touching :} It wasnt too bad :)’ ... ... ... ... ... ... ??? WT actual F?? ‘It defs picked up towards the end.. I found it hard to relate to any of the characters or their circumstances tho..’ Brett, ok so no we are not struggling bohemian artists with AIDS and soul wrenching voices in the 80s, but at bare minimum, almost all the characters are gay les bi undecided - surely we belong to this? it’s like pick ur own adventure!! no? *sigh :(

Again this probs comes down to personal preference. Can only hold it against him a little bit :P At least we both loved, what is arguably the worlds greatest lesbian anthem, take me or leave me.

I think this time my favourite single moment was also like the saddest part of the movie :( trying to think of a lovely happy moment that outshines Joanne standing up and singing at the funeral, but just can't. Kills me.
